Gestational diabetes is treatable. The best way to control this condition is to find out early in your pregnancy and start treatment as soon as possible. If gestational diabetes isn't treated, it can cause problems for the mother and the baby. These babies are born larger than normal and can develop breathing problems.
Gestational diabetes does not cause birth defects. Most women with gestational diabetes have healthy, full-term babies.
Gestational diabetes is a condition in which a pregnant woman has elevated glucose levels and other symptoms of diabetes—but did not have diabetes before she became pregnant.
