Checking the Chimney

You should have your furnace chimney vent checked for defects or debris every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A blockage in the chimney can cause carbon monoxide to build up inside your home. If you have a fireplace, its chimney and draft should be checked yearly, as well.
