Second Trimester Visits
You'll still be checking in once a month with your health care provider. Together, you'll make sure your body is adjusting well to the pregnancy.
A Visit Once a Month

Each visit, your blood pressure, urine, and weight will be checked. Your health care provider will also measure your fundal height (the height of your uterus). This is done to make sure the baby is growing well. You'll also listen to the baby's heartbeat using a special stethoscope or Doppler device.
If You Have Questions
During office visits, be sure to ask any questions you have. You may be surprised by some changes in your body. Or you may wonder how having a baby will affect your life, work, or family. These questions are common. But each new mother has her own concerns. Write down questions as you think of them. This way, you won't forget to ask when you're at your next visit.
Notes for Your Partner
There are many ways to help your partner feel better. Here are a few:
-
Read this booklet with her. Talk over any choices you need to make together.
-
Take time to listen to her concerns. She might just need to talk. Be patient, especially if she has mood swings.
-
Do things with her. Take a walk. Go to a movie. Enjoy a sunset. Have a picnic.
-
Discuss names for the baby.
