What is phytonadione injection?
PHYTONADIONE (AquaMEPHYTON®) is a man-made form of vitamin K. Vitamin K is found naturally in foods such as green, leafy vegetables, soybeans, and meats, especially liver. Phytonadione treats vitamin K deficiency or bleeding problems caused by various disorders. Generic phytonadione injections are available.
What should my health care professional know before I receive phytonadione injection?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

liver disease

an unusual or allergic reaction to phytonadione, polyoxyethylated castor oil, cyclosporine or teniposide injections, other medicine, foods, dyes, or preservatives

pregnant or trying to get pregnant

breast-feeding
How should I use this medicine?
Phytonadione is for injection under the skin, into a muscle, or rarely, into a vein. If you have to give yourself injections, make sure you understand the proper procedure. Follow the directions exactly. Always wash your hands before use. Only use a disposable syringe once. Always change the site for the injection under the skin. Use your doses at regular intervals. Do not use your medicine more often than directed.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.
What drug(s) may interact with phytonadione injection?
Tell your prescriber or health care professional: about all other medicines you are taking including non-prescription medicines; if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol; if you smoke; or if you use illegal drugs. These can affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
What should I watch for while taking phytonadione?
Visit your prescriber or health care professional for regular checks on your progress. Your prescriber or health care professional will schedule tests to make sure the medicine is working properly. Do not use more phytonadione than prescribed.
If you are giving phtonadione injections at home, make sure you receive a puncture-resistant container to dispose of the needles and syringes once you have finished with them. Do not reuse these items. Return the container to your prescriber or health care professional for proper disposal.
If you are going to have surgery, tell your prescriber or health care professional that you are using phytonadione.

Where can I keep my medicine?
Keep out of the reach of children.
Store at room temperature between 15—30 degrees C (59—86 degrees F); do not freeze. Protect from light. Store in tightly closed container and original carton until contents have been used. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
