Kid Care: Checkups

How often should your child see the doctor? Not just when he or she is sick! The doctor will set up a regular checkup schedule that includes a physical exam and an assessment of your child’s social, psychological, and nutritional development.

Sample Checkup Schedule*

Infancy

2-3 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months

Early Childhood

15 months, 18 months, 24 months, 3 years, 4 years, 5 years

6 Years & Older

Every 2 years

*This is only a sample schedule based on recommendations from both the American Academy of Pediatrics (2000) and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (1996). Based on the recommendations of your child’s doctor, your child’s schedule may be different.
