Getting Help for Back Pain

Many people experience low-back pain. When you visit your health care provider for help in dealing with the pain, ask him or her for specific treatment goals, advises the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR). Treatment goals are one of the best ways to measure your progress. Ask for an exercise plan to help you prevent recurring pain. Ask about alternatives if the doctor recommends an operation. Only five percent of people with low-back pain need surgery.
